Legislative Priorities

Agriculture is the cornerstone of Ventura County’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs throughout our region. It is also a proud part of our heritage, giving our community its unique beauty. In Congress, I have worked hard to support our farmers, farmworkers, and businesses that help feed the nation.

We have a sacred responsibility to those who have served our country in uniform. As a daughter, sister, and niece of veterans, I take no responsibility more personally and seriously. When I came to Congress, the very first committee I asked to serve on was the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Both here in Ventura County and at the national level, I have made it my priority to put our nation’s veterans first. That means helping our servicemembers transition back into civilian life and caring for our veterans by ensuring they all receive the timely, high-quality healthcare and benefits they have earned and deserve. It also means tackling veterans homelessness and unemployment and addressing high suicide rates that continue to plague our nation’s heroes. Finally, as more and more women join our Armed Forces and return home after their service, I’ve made it a special focus to ensure that the VA is prepared for the changing veteran demographics. Women represent the fastest-growing veteran population and the VA needs to adapt to meet their needs. That means making sure the VA offers gender-specific healthcare, addressing the unique circumstances leading to female veteran suicide, and providing critical wrap-around services like job-training, child care, and caregiver assistance. It’s long past time to recognize the contributions that all veterans, female and male, have made to our great nation.

We must invest in our nation’s infrastructure including our airports, roads, bridges, and waterways that are vital to the movement of people and goods across our country. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have been working to address the infrastructure challenges facing Ventura County and the nation.

As Ventura County’s Representative in Congress, I view everything I do through the lens of how it will create jobs and grow our economy. From our ports, to our large and small businesses, to our naval base, to our agricultural community, I strive to advance federal policy that will support our diverse job creators.

Did you know that the #InflationReductionAct is the biggest investment in climate action in American history?
👷 Deploying new, clean technology & creating new clean jobs
🔌 Helping families lower their energy bills
🌳 Reducing dangerous air pollution & protecting public ...health

On #EarthDay and every day, I’m proud to support investments in the American people that also help us fight the climate crisis.

How did you get to work this #EarthDay? The #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw is making your commute cleaner and greener by investing:
🚄 $102 billion in freight and passenger rail
⚡ $7.5 billion in EV chargers

♻ and so much

The effects of the climate crisis not only impact our environmental health, but it is our youth who will face the challenges of this existential issue if we don’t act now.

That’s why #TeamBrownley was excited to hear from the U.S. Youth Advisory Council for the UN Ocean Decade and ...their perspectives on the best ways to protect our oceans, support coastal and agricultural communities, and enhance habitat conservation efforts. It is inspiring to see our youth take an active role in fighting for these important issues and advocating for their future and the future of our planet.

This year marks the 82nd anniversary of the founding of the Navy Seabees. With a "Can Do" attitude, the Seabees carry out a mission to build bases, roadways, airstrips, and other essential infrastructure necessary for our military at home and around the world.

As the proud ...representative of Naval Base Ventura County and home of the Pacific Seabees, I am honored to join my colleagues in recognizing and paying tribute to these remarkable sailors and their distinguished service to our country.

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the American College of Emergency Physicians. We engaged in a substantive discussion about the critical issues that are presently impacting the dedicated professionals that provide care to patients in emergency rooms across the ...country.

From the significant increase in acts of violence being perpetrated against health care workers, to the proper and timely reimbursement for services, to the growing demand for providing long-term care, the issues emergency physicians face are complex. That is why I am so pleased to have heard directly from these professionals who are committed to improving the emergency care and our nation’s health care safety net.

The importance of ensuring our law enforcement and public safety entities in #VenturaCounty have access to high-quality, reliable communications equipment cannot be overstated.

Recently, I presented $963,000 to the County of Ventura to upgrade the region’s analog simulcast radio ...communications system to a state-of-the-art digital radio communication system for our public safety entities.

Not only will this communication system facilitate better communication and coordination between agencies, but all of our cities and residents will benefit from streamlined services that will lower costs and redundancies. This is truly a win-win for everyone across the region.

In advocating for this project, my motivation was to ensure that our renowned and sophisticated law enforcement, public safety professionals, and first responders have the renowned and sophisticated equipment they need to support their mission and their work.
