Legislative Priorities

Agriculture is the cornerstone of Ventura County’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs throughout our region. It is also a proud part of our heritage, giving our community its unique beauty. In Congress, I have worked hard to support our farmers, farmworkers, and businesses that help feed the nation.

We have a sacred responsibility to those who have served our country in uniform. As a daughter, sister, and niece of veterans, I take no responsibility more personally and seriously. When I came to Congress, the very first committee I asked to serve on was the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Both here in Ventura County and at the national level, I have made it my priority to put our nation’s veterans first. That means helping our servicemembers transition back into civilian life and caring for our veterans by ensuring they all receive the timely, high-quality healthcare and benefits they have earned and deserve. It also means tackling veterans homelessness and unemployment and addressing high suicide rates that continue to plague our nation’s heroes. Finally, as more and more women join our Armed Forces and return home after their service, I’ve made it a special focus to ensure that the VA is prepared for the changing veteran demographics. Women represent the fastest-growing veteran population and the VA needs to adapt to meet their needs. That means making sure the VA offers gender-specific healthcare, addressing the unique circumstances leading to female veteran suicide, and providing critical wrap-around services like job-training, child care, and caregiver assistance. It’s long past time to recognize the contributions that all veterans, female and male, have made to our great nation.

We must invest in our nation’s infrastructure including our airports, roads, bridges, and waterways that are vital to the movement of people and goods across our country. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have been working to address the infrastructure challenges facing Ventura County and the nation.

As Ventura County’s Representative in Congress, I view everything I do through the lens of how it will create jobs and grow our economy. From our ports, to our large and small businesses, to our naval base, to our agricultural community, I strive to advance federal policy that will support our diverse job creators.

The 26th District

The district includes most of Ventura County and a portion of Los Angeles County, including the cities of Oxnard, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Camarillo, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Calabasas. If you are interested in browsing district-specific population statistics, you can look up Census data for the 26th District. I am honored to serve the residents of the 26th Congressional District of California.

Decades of science prove mifepristone is safe and effective. Yet the is Supreme Court of the United States is hearing oral arguments in a case that undermines FDA’s authority and bans access to medication abortion across the country.

As a member of Democratic Women's Caucus, I’m ...fighting against these attacks on our rights! I’m urging SCOTUS to reject this anti-science, anti-woman case. All women should have access to the comprehensive reproductive health care they need without the dangerous interference of extremist judges or politicians.

Happy Holi to all who celebrate across #VenturaCounty and the Conejo Valley! May the Festival of Colors and new beginnings bring happiness, hope, and good to the world.

Today, I voted to keep numerous federal agencies from shutting down and protect our democracy from all threats foreign and domestic.

House Democrats were successful in removing harmful extreme MAGA Republican policies from these critical funding bills that attempted to make abortion ...illegal everywhere, slash efforts to fight climate change, and threaten our national security. Instead, the final bipartisan 2024 funding bills will help keep our communities safe, fight inflation, grow our economy, and move our country forward.

Extreme MAGA Republicans continue their attack on historic programs in the Inflation Reduction Act that would combat the climate crisis and create economic opportunity for the American people.

This week, I voted against several bad bills that put polluters over people by creating giveaways... for the Big Oil and Gas industry at the expense of the American public. House Democrats continue to stand up for a clean energy economy and address the climate crisis with the urgency this issue demands.

In recent weeks, #VenturaCounty has been struck with flooding, rains, and mudslides which have upended the lives of many members of our community. The impacts have been felt throughout the region, including the Santa Paula and Upper Ojai areas.

Recently, I have heard from many residents ...that mail routes have been impacted by the mudslide and subsequent closure of State Route 150.

If you are unable to get your mail, please know that temporary mailboxes have been installed at the Santa Paula Post Office, located at 960 W. Telegraph Road, Santa Paula, CA 93060. Impacted residents can request a mailbox at the post office with proper identification. Additionally, residents can request a temporary change of address or request “General Delivery” and have mail delivered to a local post office.

As always, my office remains open to assist you. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (805) 379-1779. I’m here to help!

Throughout our history, highly trained animals – including dogs, horses, and birds – have been on numerous frontlines. Like their handlers and the men and women in uniform they serve with, these animals have risked their lives to save the lives of others.

Recently, I was proud to ...award Ax with the Animals in War and Peace Medal of Bravery for his distinguished service in law enforcement. Ax joins a remarkable list of heroes – big and small, furry and feathered – that safeguard our communities and our great nation.

In another example of MAGA Republicans’ extreme agenda against women, Senate Republicans BLOCKED key legislation that would expand essential access to IVF for veterans.

I assure you that Democrats will continue fighting for #ReproductiveFreedom for all Americans – and that includes ...ensuring IVF remains legal and available throughout the United States and everyone has access to the care they need to build their families through parenthood.
